The middle strip, linksland, wasn't much use so it was used for grazing cattle and sheep. That's where the game developed, on the linksland. The sheep would burrow down behind the sand dunes to take shelter from wind. Over time, these areas hollowed out to from the bunkers or sand trap.denjinmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229066098199821663noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34674545.post-1159448912972501392006-09-28T05:44:00.000-07:002006-09-28T06:08:33.080-07:002006-09-28T06:08:33.080-07:00Why do they say "strike" and "spare" in bowling?Bowling has German roots, strikecomes from the German, streik, which means a blow or a hit. People don't like fractions because they're unwieldy. Then a field goal is two point and a foul shot is one point.

Why differentiate field goals from free throw?
It was a rougher game, with tackling and grabbing. Getting a basket was alot harder. A free throw is easier. It shouldn't be worth as much.denjinmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229066098199821663noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34674545.post-1158988077246105632006-09-22T21:41:00.000-07:002006-09-22T22:07:57.253-07:002006-09-22T22:07:57.253-07:00Why are the score love/15/30/40 in tennis? It comes from an old French coin, the 60 sou. Tennis was played for stakes. The sou could be broken into four pieces, so each point was worth one quarter of coins, or 15. And 40 was a shortened version of 45. A zero written down is kind of oval shaped. The French would say "l'oeuf",which means egg. The English thought they were saying "love".
p.s.: Deuce, a deux in French, means two to win.denjinmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229066098199821663noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34674545.post-1158845460946498202006-09-21T06:23:00.000-07:002006-09-21T06:31:00.963-07:002006-09-21T06:31:00.963-07:00Why is a perfect game 300 point?Thomas Curtis who is widely regarded as the father of tenpin bowling came up with the 300 point scoring system around 1895.denjinmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229066098199821663noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34674545.post-1158759532130700122006-09-20T06:32:00.000-07:002006-09-20T06:38:52.130-07:002006-09-20T06:38:52.130-07:00Why do baseball games have nine innings? The American thinks that nine is the number of supreme intelligence. Some were 5, some 7, some 12. At the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of st. Andrews, we had 11 holes that went straight along the water. they'd play 11 out, turn around, and play the same 11 back. A round was 22 holes.
At Oct. 4, 1764, the first four holes were too easy, so they made them into two. That made 9 holes out , 9 back , 18 holes.denjinmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229066098199821663noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34674545.post-34276065182305362342005-04-13T08:29:00.000-07:002008-04-13T08:30:37.544-07:002008-04-13T08:30:37.544-07:00Privacy Policy for kininarukotoba.netThe privacy of our visitors to kininarukotoba.net is important to us.

At kininarukotoba.net, we recognize that privacy of your personal information is important.
